I've never even heard of blue-eyed Mary. Thanks for sharing the picture. It's lovely.

My angsty quandary is whether to spray against deer. There are certain plants I want to see get established in my unfenced front yard. The buckeye, for instance, will offer lovely blooms for pollinators if the deer don't chomp them first. So they get sprayed.

Plant a window box of native flowers. That's not too hard.

Interesting. It seems that the modern suburban landscape supports heavy deer populations: graze the salad bar by the house while watching out for predators across unobstructed lawn, then retreat to the woods for safety. If the no-mow area grasses are tall enough, I can see how this might make the deer nervous at first.

The deer is a forever battle. (See my thousand posts...LOL.) In my experience, however, bottlebrush buckeye (Aesculus parviflora) is highly deer resistant. You might try not spraying one or two and see what happens.

This is why I live in an apartment. Because it's easy, Fish. :)

The deer are a battle for us but the no mow program has changed how we look at much of our landscape and certainly changed the eating patterns of the deer - on balance for the better. They stay at the woods’ edge and away from the tall grass areas.
